A downloadable game

There are two things known to be certain in our world.

The first thing, of course, are those who are born with the boils.

Their crimson sacs gift them with immeasurable powers, making them destined to seek out and destroy the creatures that plague our realm.

The second thing, naturally, are monsters like Rot the Otter King.

With his Lutrenian Army, he torments and terrorizes our world from his marble manor.

Of all things, those two are certain. Can those with the boils ever hope to slay the Otter King?

Boils, Otters, Valor, and Death is an exclusive commission for Indiepocalypse #46. The player controls a messed-up minivan in a castle of violent otters.

Please consider purchasing Indiepocalypse #46 here and giving it a try!

The dialogue is fun and snappy! Yummy bite-sized exposition for an interesting world. It's all paced out nicely.

The final boss battle is a good time! Take that Rot.

Made it to level 4 tonight, hoping to finish it up tomorrow. I'm really enjoying it, and it's quite unlike anything I've played before both in terms of world-building and mechanics. Learning how to smoothly transition between driving and shooting to kite the enemies around was really satisfying. The indirect control makes it feel a little like a real-time strategy game. I was never able to enjoy RTS games due to ADHD, so this is like an RTS built for me cuz I only have one unit to worry about 😁

I struggled a bit at the first boss, but the checkpoint was really friendly and I didn't get frustrated. Before long, I realized the pillars must be in that room for a reason, so I tried hiding behind them, which is when I discovered I don't need line-of-sight to shoot at my target. Getting revenge as the boss bounced helplessly against the pillar was very satisfying, and it was cool to organically discover this tactical depth. Learning how to incorporate the boost and flash abilities was also fun, and by the end (after some juggling practice) I was cancelling enemy bullets and circle-dashing around them like a pro. I'm a little intimidated by what I imagine the last level holds, but I look forward to finishing it and seeing what's in store for the characters. Extra big thanks for sending a version that'll run on my crappy old computer 🙏

anything for someone running a ThinkPad X-series; they’re super cute!

There's a big gray box blocking most of the view for me :( The whole screen was gray until I tried turning the FOV up, once it was >70 I was able to see that it is in fact rendering something, but even at max I can't see enough to play. I had to use --rendering-driver opengl3  to get it to run at all. I figure the answer is "I need a new computer" but I wanted to let you know in case this is useful. Let me know if you want more info about my setup. (The opening cutscene ran smoothly.)

Hey, thanks for taking the time to reach out! I think I have a hunch with what’s going on, but I’d love to learn a little more about your setup if possible. There might be something I’ve missed that’s affecting players in your situation.

No prob, here's my DxDiag report, I think all the relevant info is in there https://bluelander.neocities.org/DxDiag.txt

If there's anything else that would help just let me know

Thanks!

I've just sent an e-mail to the address featured on your itch page. I think I've compiled a version that should play better on your computer. Be sure to check your spam folder!
